Bertha's records are at Salem, SD McCook Co. #3273 & 3384. RV and Bertha lived on the farm their whole married life. They used to hatch chickens in the living room of their home. They lived on the Duxbury farm which they bought at the time of Rosa's passing. The kitchen was a long room with a wash sink at the south end, right next to the kitchen cook stove. Bertha always made large cookies. She once said she made them big so you needed only one! I remember at one time they had both Grqndma Duxbury as I knew her (Rosa) and her mother Grandma Salmon. Norma Mann Lynde and I were out there for some reason and Norma got the idea to spit at Grandma Salmon. She would stand back just so far and spit at her. I don't know if she ever hit or not. Also I remember the chemical bathroom stool that RVand Bertha put in the closet of their bedroom downstairs. There was a window in the room but I always thought their clothes smelled like that chemical stool. Had been in poor health for 10 years. I (HLF) also remember Bertha drinking from a baby bottle tied to her bed with an old shoestring in those last 10 years. She didn't talk much but they tell me she wanted something and RV didn't come right away so she yelled FIRE and that b rought him running. Obit. Mitchell, SD Daily Republic January 19, 1874.

Lived most of married life in Westchester, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Hazel Frischen carries this family down another generation. Obituary says married July 16, 1936. Lived in Sun City, Arizona the last few years. Taught elementary schools 21 years in SD, Mo., and Ill. Member of Willowbrook United Methodist church in Sun City. Was the 8th child in her family and all of them preceded her in death. Age at death 92 yrs. and 6 days.
May have beenh married 1936. May have been married in July .
Lives in Westchester, Illinois, in 1996
