At Preston Record Office ref. MBDa 1/- are the Darwen Manor Court Rolls. They are disappointing compared with the Clitheroe Court Rolls. Those inspected contain minor business of the Manor with no reference to the transfer of copyhold land. Abstracts of certain rolls follow:

1761 Leases of the Manor of Over Darwen (Ref: MBDa 1/33)
This document is a particular of 65 entries relating to the copyhold land:
Item 11:
James HORRIDGE for Duxbury Tenement of 12 Acres 3 Rods 0 Poles lease granted July 1748 for the lives of:
Margaret HORRIDGE age 40, Jennett HORRIDGE 35, Thomas HORRIDGE 23
Item 20:
Thomas FISH for two cottages 0-2-0
lease granted Sep 1741 for the lives of:
Mary ROTHWELL 38, Thomas DUXBURY 28 (ie b.1733)
Item 22 :
William DUXBURY for two houses 15A-2R-0P, lease granted May 1734 for the lives of:
George DUXBURY 52 (ie b.1709), Oliver DUXBURY 49 (ie b.1712)
At Ref MBDa 2/1 are three boxes of unindexed leases of Darwen Manor which the Record Office Staff were reluctant to allow free access to. Of the specific documents examined in box 08/1221/05 were two copies of a lengthy schedule of leases dated 16 July 1765 connected with the will of Sir George WARREN, then Lord of the Manor. Being only four years on from the 1761 particular of leases the information is similar.
The following paragraphs mention DUXBURY:
Thomas DUXBURY, son of William, for land in tenure of Thomas FISH and Mary ROTHWELL by lease of 1741
Duxbury's tenement, 15 acres 2 roods, in tenure of William DUXBURY by virtue of lease 20 May 1734 between William DUXBURY and Edward WARREN, the father of George, for the lives of:
George, Oliver & William DUXBURY; three sons of the said William DUXBURY for their lives, only two now in being, viz George and Oliver
[Wm DUXBURY jnr. died 1758, Wm DUXBURY snr. died 1765]
Also in Box 08/1221/05 is an indenture of the OSBALDESTON family, early Lords of Darwen Manor, of 1625. As, apparently, collateral for a loan, mention is made of rents from named tenants of Darwen Manor. About ten names are given in full together with: "one DUXBURY" later described as "a DUXBURY". While the lack of a forename is disappointing, the document does at least establish an early Darwen presence for DUXBURY.
The box also contained some Over Darwen Manor Court Rolls which should be separately indexed. The contents of the other two boxes have yet to be searched 20 Jly 1991
